Yes. We provide payroll support in English for foreign companies operating in Japan.
We have more than 15 years of experience supporting international companies with payroll and related HR and social insurance matters in Japan.
During this time, we have worked with companies and HR teams based in many different countries. This experience has taught us that one of the challenges of managing payroll in Japan is not simply calculating salaries correctly. It is also understanding how Japan’s payroll, tax and social insurance systems work and how they differ from systems in other countries.
Understanding the Unique Aspects of Japanese Payroll
Japanese payroll has a number of rules and practices that may be unfamiliar to overseas HR and payroll professionals.
Social insurance is a good example. An employee’s monthly social insurance contributions may remain unchanged for some time and then suddenly change due to a revision of their standard monthly remuneration. In many cases, social insurance premiums are not deducted from the employee’s salary in the month they join the company, as the premiums for a given month are generally deducted from the following month’s salary. For the same reason, an employee leaving the company at the end of a month may have two months’ social insurance premiums deducted from their final salary.
These situations are perfectly normal under the Japanese system, but they can understandably appear unusual to an overseas HR or payroll team seeing them for the first time.
This is where experience matters. Having supported international companies in Japan for more than 15 years, we are familiar not only with the Japanese rules themselves, but also with the questions those rules commonly raise for overseas HR teams.
We believe that good payroll support means being able to explain not only what has happened, but also why it has happened in a clear and practical way.
More Than English Communication
Providing payroll support in English means more than simply translating Japanese payroll terminology into English.
When an overseas HR team asks a question, we believe it is important to understand why the issue may be confusing from their perspective and to explain the Japanese rules in a way that makes sense to someone who is not familiar with the Japanese system.
Our more than 15 years of experience working with international companies has given us a strong understanding of the questions and misunderstandings that commonly arise when overseas HR teams manage employees in Japan.
This allows us not only to process payroll accurately, but also to provide clear explanations based on practical experience.
